FAQs on McKenzie Method:

By Joseph Agnello, PT, Cert. MDT

What is McKenzie Method?

The McKenzie Method of Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (also known as MDT) is an internationally acclaimed method of assessing pain in the spine area and its extremities. Developed by New Zealand based Physical Therapist Mr. Robin McKenzie, it is a philosophy of active patient involvement that is trusted and utilized by highly experienced clinicians and physical therapists all over the world for back, neck and extremity problems for the past 30 years. This comprehensive approach is one of the most researched physical therapy based methods available as it is based on sound principles and fundamentals that has proved to be very successful.

Joe Agnello, PT from Agnello Spine & Sports Physical Therapy is one amongst a very few select physical therapists in the world to be come a Certified MDT clinician. He is trained to assess and diagnose all areas of the musculoskeletal system using the McKenzie Method. If a problem exists in or around the spine, muscle or joint, our certified expert physical therapists can provide a safe and reliable way to reach an accurate diagnosis and make the appropriate treatment plan, eliminating the need for expensive tests such as MRI’s.  Certified MDT professionals like Joe Agnello, PT are able to rapidly determine the effectiveness of the method for each patient and recommend appropriate treatment option. and it is performed by a comprehensive approach based on sound principles and fundamentals that, when fully understood and followed, is very successful.

What are the advantages of McKenzie Method?

If you are treated by physical therapists with McKenzie training like Dr. Agnello, it can show greater improvement rather than just taking painkillers. A key advantage of the McKenzie approach is that you will receive individualized treatment based on the pain assessment. He offers a McKenzie evaluation system that determines specific pain pattern.
